The 2017 CX-9 offers a turbocharged 2.5-litre SkyActive-G four-cylinder engine. This can create 227 horsepower on regular 87 octane gas but jumps up to 250 hp on premium fuel. The 310 lb-ft. of torque at 2,000 rpm is a best‑in‑class rating. The engine is hooked up to a six-speed automatic transmission. The GS model is front-wheel-drive, but the rest of the lineup is fitted with i-Activ AWD which intelligently distributed power to wheels as needed and avoids slipping wheels. The 2017 CX-9 offers an EPA of 10.5L/100kms in the city and 8.3L/100kms on the highway.

The 2017 Mazda CX-9 employs KODO design which means the “Soul of Motion” design is hand crafted with the available brushed aluminum and rosewood trim. The exterior includes a long hood and signature Mazda grill. Smooth lines lead to the sculpted back of the vehicle. Every aspect of the interior and exterior was carefully hand crafted and before any production occurred Mazda designers sculpted them in clay so that no detail was overlooked. The SUV has been has been reduced in length by 30 mm but has been stretched by 55 mm to make more in cabin legroom. For this model year the CX-9’s cockpit got a redesign and now offers a “heads-up” active driving display which projects key safety and navigation information on the windshield avoiding any distraction for the driver.
A host of intelligent tech features are found throughout the 2017 CX-9. The adaptive front lighting system pivots the headlights up to fifteen degrees when cornering to better illuminate the road ahead. High beam control automatically monitors oncoming traffic and switches the high beams on and off as necessary.
